posted 04.22.2015
OLATHE, Kan. – Terracon, a leading provider of environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials consulting engineering services, is honored to be celebrating its 50th anniversary this month. Founded on April 22, 1965, Terracon traces its roots to a small engineering firm in Iowa. The firm, which brings together a staff of engineers, scientists, and technicians, has expanded into a nationwide operation with more than 150 offices and 3,400 employees. “This anniversary is about honoring our clients who have put their trust in us,” said David Gaboury, P.E., president and CEO, “and our employees who work hard every day to give back to their communities. We’re just getting started and are excited about the next 50 years.” Terracon began as Soil Testing Services of Iowa, Inc., with Gerald Olson, P.E., as founder. In 1980, the company was renamed Terracon Consultants, Inc., moved to the Kansas City metropolitan area, and became 100 percent employee-owned. Over the last 18 years, David Gaboury has led the company to nearly $500 million in revenues. Terracon has jumped nearly 30 spots in the past ten years on Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 Design Firms ranking, rising to #35 in 2014. With focus on five primary sectors – government, commercial/retail, industrial, institutional and energy – Terracon’s project experience is varied. Recent experience includes entertainment venues like Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, and Baha Mar resort in Nassau, Bahamas, infrastructure improvements such as the Salt Lake City Airport Terminal Redevelopment Program and the I-35E corridor reconstruction in Dallas; and urban sustainability solutions for the Bullitt Center in Seattle. Terracon and its employees are consistently recognized for technical ability, nationwide leadership in industry organizations, and regional excellence by being named to Healthiest Employers and Top Engineering Firms lists. Additionally, the Terracon Foundation gives back by aiming to be a real part of the lives of its employees and communities. Last year, the Terracon Foundation provided $233,000 in the form of grants and scholarships to support more than 47 organizations, and a National Partner Grant totaling $50,000 to the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Terracon is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm with more than 3,400 employees providing environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services from more than 150 offices in 42 states. Terracon currently ranks 35th on Engineering News-Record’s List of Top 500 Design Firms. For additional information about Terracon, please visit: www.terracon.com.
