Terracon's Tacoma office was established in 2002 as part of Zipper Zeman Associates, Inc. Since merging with Terracon in 2005, the Tacoma office has continued to provide geotechnical and environmental consulting services, while recently expanding to provide materials testing and Special Inspections. The Tacoma office serves the southern Puget Sound area and western Washington.

Chico Way Bridge RepairGeolocation: 0, 0
Terracon's Tacoma office completed an emergency geotechnical evaluation for replacement of the existing bridge which was washed out by floods. Exploratory borings and geotechnical engineering analyses were completed to assess feasible pile types and axial and lateral capacities. Analyses was completed using the Washington Department of Transportation and AASHTO LRFD methods. Driven H-Piles were selected for replacement bridge foundation support.

Sediment SamplingGeolocation: 0, 0
Terracon completed sediment sampling and analysis at the Port of Tacoma's former Kaiser Aluminum facility. The project involved sediment sampling at three ponds via a Ponar sediment sampler. Analytical laboratory results were compared to the applicable State of Washington Department of Ecology cleanup standards. Terracon also provided core sampling at a selected pond in order to obtain the stratigraphy of the subsurface conditions. Terracon completed a geotechnical evaluation and construction materials testing and Special Inspections for a new food store. Undocumented fill, saturated soft silts, peat, and liquefiable sands were identified in soil borings and CPT probes on the site. Terracon worked with the design team and owner to provide the most cost efficient foundation support options. Stone columns were selected along with localized overexcavation of existing fill used for preloading of other pads on the property.
