October 7-9, 2019
San Antonio, Texas

The requirements of designing and building long, multi-state linear projects is complex. Our experienced scientists and engineers can help you navigate local and state environmental regulations. With more than 4,500 employees and 150 offices nationwide, we have the resources and expertise to support your next project.

PresentationS:

Rapid Assessment and Remediation of A Refined Product Release to soil and Groundwater (laBelle, Texas)

Attendees will be guided through the approach Terracon took after a release from a refined product pipeline. We performed a rapid assessment of impacted soil and groundwater using a combination of hydro punch and mobile gas chromatography (GC) lab. Once adequately assessed, impacted soil was remediated primarily by mass removal. Residual soil that remained was treated leading to reductions below protective concentration levels (PCLs) and regulatory closure for the soil issue.

Innovative Techniques for Site Characterization and Remediation of Brine Impacted Soils

Brine impacted soils can be returned to productive farmland within months compared to current in-situ remediation techniques that can take up to ten years. New techniques can reduce the costs of remediation by decreasing the testing, transportation, and disposal of impacted soils.
Primary Author / Conference Presenter: John Ellingson, Terracon Consultants, Inc., Fargo, N.D.

Building Useful Conceptual Site Models Using 3D Modeling Technology

Participants will learn how CSMs, built using 3D modeling technology, helped to quantify and explain the spatial distribution of contamination in the subsurface at four different sites.  Understanding the distribution of the contaminants (as well as the associated geologic environment) is often the key to a timely, cost-effective, and successful remediation.  Multiple types of field-collected data will be presented – analytical data from laboratory reports, geologic data from borings logs, groundwater elevations from gauging events, and high-resolution data from the latest site characterization tools.
