CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Terracon, a leading national consulting engineering firm comprised of engineers, scientists, architects, facilities experts, and field professionals, announces Michael (Mike) Schrum, P.E., has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the Snider Lifetime Achievement Award.
The criteria for the Snider Award include long-term, dedicated service to the environmental profession, multi-faceted involvement, high ethical standards, meaningful industry impact, and insufficient prior recognition of the individual’s contributions. The award was established in 2003 to honor the memory of Jack Snider, Jr., and is awarded annually at the Environmental Information Association’s (EIA) national conference. The organization, made up of a multi-disciplinary membership, focuses on developing and sharing accurate, science-based information concerning environmental health and safety hazards in the built environment.
“Mike has been a leader within the profession and a mentor to many of us in environmental services at Terracon,” said Amanda McKenney, CIH, vice president, senior principal and national manager – building environmental sciences. “He has been involved with the EIA his entire career and is well deserving of this lifetime achievement award.”
Schrum, a senior principal and director of special projects, joined Terracon in 2002, focusing on environmental consulting including assessment and management of asbestos, lead-based paint, and indoor air quality issues. He has authored related articles, and his work is referenced in technical consulting documents and practice guidance, particularly those referencing indoor environmental quality (IEQ), asbestos, lead, and indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments in building consulting contexts.
Schrum earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi. He is based in Terracon’s office in Charlotte, North Carolina.
