Finding Environmental Planning Harmony on Your Transportation Project

Environmental planning is complex, nuanced – and necessary. Our national network of environmental professionals can partner with you to help make your job easier, combining local expertise with national resources to lead you through local, state, and federal regulations. We clear your path forward, with services to meet a variety of requirements, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and services needed to meet requirements and secure needed permits.

Here are a just a few ways we can help:

Threatened and endangered species – protecting vulnerable, essential creatures

The presence of habitat for threatened and endangered bats or other species doesn’t have to derail your project. But it does take communication, collaboration, and expertise to determine the proper course of action. If your project plans impact T&E species habitat, identifying and addressing protected species early in the process is essential to making informed decisions that can help save time and money.

Our experts use a variety of survey methods to confirm the presence or presumed absence of protected species. The earlier in the project timeline the better, to build a plan that safeguards both protected species and your project goals.

Wetlands services – staying afloat of changing regulations

The definition of jurisdictional wetlands and Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) continues to evolve, and Terracon has a committee dedicated to monitoring the updates. Wetlands look different depending on your location, but the need to meet state and federal requirements remains constant.

Identifying and assessing wetlands is a critical step to meeting regulatory goals. We have the local expertise and relationships with regulatory agencies to help cross this off your list.

Cultural resources – protecting the past

Artifacts that can shed light on our collective history are often buried beneath our feet. Due diligence is important to both the client and community. Preserving historic sites benefits future generations.

Our professionals can survey project sites and coordinate with the necessary agencies to keep schedules on track while helping to preserve our shared history.

Leading the way with environmental planning on Pennsylvania project

The new roadway and alignment of the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation project (CSVT) has taken more than 25 years of planning. With multiple environmental considerations to balance, our Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, office (formerly Skelly & Loy, A Terracon Company) served as the prime contractor for the completion of preliminary engineering and environmental planning phase of project development.

We led the way on this project, balancing environmental, community, and engineering concerns to help make this essential stretch of new highway a reality. The northern section was finished in 2022, and the entire project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
