Environmental, Stories, Industrial and Logistics
A new federal administration means new plans and new goals – and likely many environmental regulatory changes. We can anticipate efforts to institute a “regulatory reset” and fewer overall touchpoints and requirements for environmental permitting.
As plans evolve, a baseline of federal and state environmental requirements will remain as established under federal laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Even with regulatory changes to broad environmental programs and goals, basic permitting and environmental planning considerations cannot be overlooked. Terracon has a national network of environmental professionals with deep knowledge of both federal and state environmental regulations and requirements. With change on the horizon, we can help lead you on the path toward environmental compliance.
A “regulatory reset” is likely to include a significant decrease in resources for federal environmental agencies. Operating budgets, staff, and programs might be reduced or possibly eliminated. Efforts will also be taken to repeal laws and other initiatives to decarbonize the economy and refocus on building America’s energy and minerals independence.
What this could mean is both less regulatory oversight and reporting requirements in certain environmental areas, but also increased variability from one state to another as the uniformity offered under a common federal umbrella diminishes. Less federal funding mechanisms could also impact the ability for new environmental technologies and certain manufacturing to start, grow, and become established, especially those with global competition.
Although federal, and possibly state, regulatory drivers and resources may decrease, the mechanism for noncompliance enforcement and penalties will not go away. Beyond agency enforcement, there is a need to properly plan for and establish permits and environmental programs that are adaptable and allow for enhanced growth for manufacturing and production.
In this evolving regulatory landscape, our team of environmental professionals nationwide has your back. We’re committed to monitoring and helping you navigate federal-level changes while staying focused on the local and state regulations required to keep your project moving toward timely compliance.
