SAN DIEGO — Environmental Business Journal®* (EBJ), an independent business research publication that has provided strategic market intelligence to the environmental industry since 1988, has honored Terracon with two awards for 2023, including one from Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ):
Terracon was recognized for grounding diversity and inclusion in the company’s guiding behaviors: Terracon’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) have grown from three ERGs to six in 2023, with over 500 employee-owners engaged in one or more ERGs.
“We are pleased to be recognized by EBJ for our core values, which include we treat everyone fairly and respectfully; we commit to inclusion; and we speak up for ourselves and others,” said Mike Hagemeister, P.E., director of Terracon’s environmental service line.
Terracon was recognized for helping its upstream oil and gas clients voluntarily avoid 16,206 metric tons (mt) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) from natural gas-driven pneumatic controllers. Terracon used a technology-driven approach to collect accurate field data to calculate lower site-specific emissions rates. The firm recommended cost-effective best practices by highlighting opportunities to reduce emissions, and in some cases developed a GHG Benchmarking and Sustainability Report to support clients’ sustainability goals.
“Terracon strives to deliver innovative solutions to meet our clients’ sustainability needs. We are excited to be recognized for this significant effort,” said Lori Cathcart, director of corporate sustainability for Terracon.
“In a year of strong growth and financial performance for the environmental industry in 2023, a number of companies set themselves apart with performance, transactions or projects that merit special recognition. With energy transition, climate resilience, and new federal programs driving business, as well as traditional environmental market drivers in infrastructure, air quality, remediation, water and wastewater, it is understandable that most companies report growing demand for environmental technology and services,” said Grant Ferrier, editor of Environmental Business Journal and chair of the EBJ Business Achievement Award selection committee.
The 2023 EBJ awards will be presented live and in-person at the EBJ Business Achievement Awards banquet at the Environmental Industry Summit XXII on April 2-4, 2024, in San Diego, along with CCBJ Business Achievement, Lifetime Achievement and 50-Year Company anniversary awards.
