The Port of Anchorage is in the process of undergoing a 10-year, $500 million expansion. Terracon was retained as the geotechnical consultant to the program manager for the project, Integrated Concepts Research Corporation, a subsidiary to Koniag Services, an Alaska Native American Corporation. The geotechnical exploration phase included planning and supervision of offshore drilling, electric cone penetrometer (CPTU) testing operations, in-situ vane shear, and shear wave velocity testing. Terracon also performed triaxial shear, direct simple shear and cyclic shear testing and numerous identification tests to determine the soil classification. The results of the exploration and lab testing program were presented in a summary report for use in future design of the expansion.
