The Department of Homeland Security is building a $650-million, 500,000-square-foot laboratory to research and develop countermeasures to animal, human, and zoonotic diseases. The name of the lab will be the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). Terracon provided preliminary geotechnical and environmental services for the six final sites during the site selection process. Following the contract award, Terracon was retained to provide design specific environmental and geotechnical services at the Manhattan location. Facility design is underway with plans for construction to begin in 2010. It is expected that the NBAF will be operational by 2015.
