Terracon's Austin office was originally founded as HBC Engineering in February 1994, and then acquired by Terracon in December 1998. The office has more than 50 engineers, geologists, scientists, and technicians. All of the department managers in the Austin office have been with Terracon between 12 and 16 years. Our services include geotechnical engineering, construction materials engineering and testing, and environmental consulting.
Terracon provided Phase I environmental site assessments, geotechnical engineering and Quality Assurance testing and inspection services for the Formula 1 racetrack and associated buildings. The project included a 1,000+ acre site with 3.4 miles of winding racetrack, two tunnels, a main grandstand, pit building, team buildings, media building, medical building, parking areas, and an electrical substation.
Terracon provided Phase I environmental site assessments, groundwater and soil sampling and testing, waste characterization and disposal, geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing and inspection services for the new J.W. Marriott Hotel in downtown Austin.
The hotel will be the largest hotel in Austin and the largest JW Marriott hotel in the United States. The 34-story, 1.2 million square foot hotel, has more than 112,000 square feet of event space, 42 meeting rooms and 1,012 guest rooms.
Terracon performed construction materials testing and inspection services for Segments 5 and 6 of State Highway 130. Segments 5 & 6 form a 40-mile link through Travis, Caldwell and Guadalupe counties from the intersection of SH 45 East and Highway 183 to I-10 near Seguin. This $1.35 billion project was built and is now operated by the SH 130 Concession Company, LLC in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Terracon provided a Phase I environmental site assessment, a Phase II subsurface site investigation, the geotechnical engineering and construction materials engineering and testing services for the development of the 37-story W Hotel and high-rise condominium. Analysis of the groundwater collected from the site showed concentrations of the dry cleaning solvent, tetrachloroethylene (PCE) from off-site activities. Terracon in turn prepared Innocent Owner Program (IOP) documentation on behalf of the owner for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, obtained a storm water discharge permit…
