The Smith Center is a 2,015-seat, $245-million, performing arts center being constructed in downtown Las Vegas as part of the Symphony Park improvement plan. Terracon was contracted to perform Special Inspection services for the entire project. In addition to the traditional special inspections performed by Terracon, we have been asked by the owner to assist with inspection during the installation of an advanced vapor mitigation system. The site is located on a former Union Pacific Railroad transfer station and decades of fuel and grease leakage has seeped deep into the earth. Excavation was not an option due to the depth of the seepage.
