Terracon is providing Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department with concrete and earthwork testing for the new filter buildings at the South Dade Wastewater Treatment Plant. Terracon was awarded a $300,000 testing contract for the $600-million project which includes upgrades to the plant to produce highly treated wastewater that will then go through the water reclamation process of microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and the addition of hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet disinfection. It will increase the peak flow capacity of the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant by 27 percent. The project is being built to meet specific Florida Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements for the high-level disinfection of wastewater prior to its disposal into deep injection wells.
