Terracon was selected to perform the preliminary geotechnical study and the design-build geotechnical construction services for the Central Utah Water Conservancy District's (CUWCD) 60-inch aqueduct extending four miles. The alignment of the pipeline crossed the Jordan River which posed a geotechnical challenge for the design of the project. Terracon provided geotechnical subsurface exploration, field and laboratory testing and engineering analysis for the design and construction of the aqueduct. Special attention was directed to evaluation of liquefaction and lateral spread, subsidence potential, groundwater depth, differential settlement along the pipe, buoyancy affects, thrust block analysis, seismic considerations and other earthwork recommendations for the project.
