I-64/Highway 40 ProjectGeolocation: 38.647, -90.225

Concerns along I-64 and I-170 related to neighborhood impacts, safety and security, air quality and noise, resulted in the recommendations to reconstruct I-64, along with proposed means of improving specific interchanges along the route. In July 2005, the new I-64 project received funding of $535 million and Terracon was selected to provide geotechnical design services for the project. Due to the large-scale nature of this project, challenges included performing field exploration work at night to minimize disruption to existing traffic patterns, numerous existing underground utilities, and multi-jurisdictional permitting process and access limitations. Design challenges included accelerated design-build schedule and frequent changes and improvements to the project plans.
