Terracon performed environmental, geotechnical, and construction materials engineering and testing services during the planning and design phase of the University Residences redevelopment. The 42.5 acre site is located at 620 West Shipp Avenue on the former American Standard Foundry property. The site was utilized for industrial purpose for more than 150 years. Closely located are a drum refurbishing facility and a former petroleum storage and distribution facility. All sites have known soil and groundwater contamination. Terracon acted as project manager for the regulatory closure and site redevelopment consulting services. The private client redeveloped the 42-acre site for University of Louisville student housing. The site had soil and groundwater impacted with metals, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, and volatile organic compounds (specifically chlorinated solvents). Terracon assisted the client with protocols and procedures to help negotiate and obtain regulatory closure.
