The City of Overland Park, Kansas, planned to establish a horizontal and vertical alignment for 151st Street from Quivira Road to Antioch Road, Quivira Road from 151st Street to 159th Street and Switzer Road from 151st Street to 159th Street as part of a Thoroughfare Street Improvement Program. Impacts on existing developments and infrastructure, as well as major storm drainage improvements were determined during the preliminary engineering analysis. Terracon performed geotechnical engineering services for the Switzer Road Improvements from 151st Street to 159th Street. The plan called for the existing 2 lane roadway to be removed and a 4 lane roadway with center median to be constructed. The existing side ditches were filled and storm drainage was improved by the construction of new storm sewers on both sides of the new streets. Terracon drilled 15 borings to specific depths as requested by the client. Terracon then provided data and analysis of the soil conditions. Terracon also performed materials testing services for the street and sewer improvements. Services performed included: aggregate testing, asphaltic concrete testing, concrete testing, and soils testing.
