This project includes construction of a three-story, steel framed, 113,000 square foot hospital structure, supported on displacement pile foundations. The full-service hospital replaces the 200-bed Chalmette Medical Center, which was demolished after Katrina.
The hospital provides the community will full healthcare services such as an emergency department, an intensive-care unit, general surgery, orthopedics, endoscopy, imaging and a catheterization lab. The facility will include 32 medical/surgical beds and eight ICU beds and will accommodate several future expansions giving it the ability to grow incrementally in response to increased demand.
The site was surcharged with about five feet of fill prior to construction to accelerate settlement. Terracon monitored the settlement of the surcharge, and is providing CMET services for reinforcing steel, concrete, floor flatness testing, fireproofing, and structural steel welded and bolted connections.
