As part of a site acquisition and redevelopment program, Terracon was retained by LaQuinta Corporation to perform a due diligence assessment of a nine-story office building in downtown Chicago. Terracon's initial services included a Phase I ESA and asbestos survey of the existing structure which was used as an office building. Based on the findings of the Phase I, a limited site investigation was conducted to evaluate potential site impacts due to an abandoned-in-place underground storage tank and subsurface soil conditions. The limited site investigation revealed soil impacts due to elevated concentrations of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. To facilitate LaQuinta's redevelopment plan, Terracon conducted environmental services to pursue a comprehensive no further remediation letter through the Illinois Site Remediation Program. Terracon was also called upon to assist LaQuinta with the development of specifications to remove asbestos containing materials from the existing structure prior to the interior demolition. During the abatement program, Terracon provided asbestos project management and air sampling services.
