Iowa River Landing Brownfields RevitalizationGeolocation: 41.6818, -91.5658

This project originally involved 200 acres, later expanded to 230 acres under the Brownfields program, along the 1st Avenue industrial corridor and the Iowa River. Terracon was competitively selected in May 1999 to evaluate the Brownfields area for feasibility of redevelopment and integration into the City's primary development plan. Terracon has since continuously provided turnkey Brownfields environmental, geotechnical and construction materials engineering and testing services to assist the City in achieving $70 million in construction of the Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center; $9.4 million for its first pay-to-park ramp and lot; $1.2 million for demolition work; $1.44 million for wetlands mitigation; $6.37 million on infrastructure improvements in the area such as utility relocation and grading; and $1 million of the $12 million total dollars for construction of the River Bend commercial and residential development. This work culminated with the project being awarded 2008 EPA Region 7 and 1st National Runner-up Phoenix Awards, the latter only rarely given at times when two finalists go to a tie-breaker for the national Grand Prize Phoenix Award.
