Terracon performed construction monitoring and materials testing services on a full-time basis for ING in Windsor, Conn. The $100-million, 475,000-square-foot, four-story facility features state-of-the-art work and meeting space for 2,500 workers. The building is the largest single office structure built in Greater Hartford in two decades and features a fitness center and fourth floor outdoor terrace for dining and social functions. The 76-acre site was developed with surface parking for 2,500 vehicles and includes paved walking trails along the wooded borders of the property. The scope of services for the ING project included soils, concrete, structural steel, precast concrete, fire proofing, and bituminous concrete. The project also included off-site roadway improvements on state- and town-owned roads for additional turning lanes to access roadways. Due to the fast-track schedule, multiple technicians were on-site observing the work performed by the contractors. The construction schedule periodically required that two earthwork contractors and two steel erectors work concurrently on the structure. More than 500 moment connections were ultrasonically tested by Terracon's structural steel inspectors.
