Pasadena, TX: Terracon was selected by the Port of Houston Authority (POHA) to perform the construction materials testing for the Port of Houston Bayport Cruise Terminal. Terracon teamed with two HUB / MWBE businesses to perform these services for the POHA. The project was developed with three construction segments: wharf and dredging, terminal cruise building, and site utilities. The cruise terminal building has 86,800 square feet of space and will service cruise lines. The wharf is 1,250 linear feet in length. Approximately 540,000 square feet of pavement is available for parking. Cruise Terminal Road was also constructed. Terracon's scope of services included sampling the materials proposed for use, testing soil and base samples for moisture density relationship, and soil compaction testing. Terracon also provided concrete observations and testing, coatings inspections for pipes, sheet piles, and whalers. Shop and field inspections of bolted and welded connections were performed. Nondestructive evaluation by radiographic and ultrasonic methods of shop and field welds were also conducted. Terracon established an on-site laboratory primarily to perform the concrete testing. Additionally, the on-site laboratory was staffed to coordinate the majority of the field testing services for this project.
