Terracon provided geotechnical engineering services for AshGrove Cement Company's new 4,650 standard ton per day modernization of their existing facility. The project is a $190 million, high-profile, state-of-the-art cement processing plant that includes constructing a new cement kiln, cement mill and raw and finished material storage structures.
Terracon performed three subsurface explorations involving soil drilling through fill and native soils, coring in marl/limestone and test pits to evaluate on-site soils for use as fill. Pressuremeter testing was performed in the marl bedrock, which resulted in using a significantly increased bearing pressure in pier foundation design and reduced construction cost estimates. Terracon also provided civil grading design assistance, drilled pier foundation analyses and rock excavation slope design services. During construction, Terracon provided testing and observation services.
