Terracon was retained by Amgen to perform geotechnical investigations, construction materials engineering and testing, and Special Inspection services on Amgen's 230-acre site in Longmont. This site is comprised of four buildings including a central utility plant, 110,000-square-foot laboratory and support building, a 110,000-square-foot warehouse, and a 194,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.
The geotechnical investigation consisted of performing test borings, laboratory testing of soil samples, evaluation of test data, and a report with design and construction related recommendations.

Terracon's Longmont office was established in 1978 as Empire Laboratories. The office was opened with just one person, Edward Paas, P.E., who is still the office manager. In 1992, Terracon acquired Empire Laboratories.
