The Rapid City Terracon office has been a service center since 2007 and currently employs six staff members. With its unique location in western South Dakota, the Rapid City office provides geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials engineering and testing services to clients in Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Markets served include commercial development, education, agriculture, energy and much more.

In 2009 and 2010, Terracon provided the geotechnical and construction materials engineering and testing services for a big-box retailer in Rapid City, S.D. The 142,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open the spring of 2011. Terracon also completed the geotechnical and environmental services for a new 150,000 square foot store in Rapid City with construction anticipated to begin in 2011.

Terracon worked extensively on data gathering and a South Dakota PUC facility permit application for a $350 million wind farm project with South Dakota. PrairieWinds SD1 is currently in the construction phase, and once operational will consist of 101 wind turbines, making it the second largest wind farm in South Dakota.
