I-70 from East Topeka to Lawrence experiences high traffic volumes during the peak hours, as well as during the academic year with the University of Kansas. The Kansas Turnpike Authority hired HNTB Corporation to design a solution to alleviate the congestion and expand the toll plazas. Concurrently, aging bridges over the Kansas River needed to be replaced.

The Department of Homeland Security is building a $650-million, 500,000-square-foot laboratory to research and develop countermeasures to animal, human, and zoonotic diseases. The name of the lab will be the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).

In 2007, GO Topeka obtained Terracon to conduct environmental and geotechnical services for the Center Crossing Commerce Park. Several entities had expressed interest in obtaining certain portions of the property. To be proactive in attracting future development, GO Topeka conducted several studies to provide geotechnical and environmental information to prospective purchasers.
