A potential purchaser contracted with Terracon to conduct an environmental Phase I and a Phase II of the soil and groundwater related to historical use of the property. Chlorinated solvents were discovered in the soil and groundwater related to former plating operations and dry cleaning operations from previous tenants or prior owners. The current property owner retained Terracon to assist in assessing the contamination through the Voluntary Cleanup Contract (VCC) program as a responsible party.

The Liberty Bridge is 345 feet long, 12 feet wide and 8 inches thick, the concrete reinforced deck is supported by a single suspension cable. Terracon was chosen by the City of Greenville to work on this project due to our involvement on numerous successful downtown ventures. Terracon performed the geotechnical exploration and made foundation recommendations for spread footings. The footing design was critical because of the presence of old fill soils which had to be identified and then either undercut to suitable adequate bearing soils or the foundation piers extended to the bearing layer. Terracon provided construction materials testing and Special Inspection services during the construction phase of the project.
