Houston Astros Stadium

Houston, Texas

Terracon provided comprehensive construction materials testing and monitoring services for the ballpark at Union Station, the home of the Houston Astros. The $250 million stadium occupies more than 1 million square feet. Terracon’s initial work on the project was a structural survey of the old Union Station building. Assistance was provided to the structural engineer and project architect in preparing as-built drawings for the six-story building. Terracon’s services included chipping concrete/masonry encased steel elements, coring, nondestructive and destructive tests and preparing structural and architectural measurements presented on CAD drawings.  Offsite services included architectural and structural pre-cast concrete inspection and structural steel fabrication inspection. Much of the work was performed after hours because the building was occupied during the day. Terracon had up to 13 full-time employees assigned to this high profile project.
